February: Heart Health Month

February 20, 2016

Why Heart Month is so important to me???

Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death of men and women in the United States?  Cardiovascular diseases include heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure. Coronary heart disease is commonly called heart disease. This condition can cause a blockage in a blood vessel in the heart, which can lead to a heart attack or sudden death.

Good news? Heart disease can be prevented through a healthier diet and manage current health conditions.   We started this website because we want to assist our family and friends in creating a healthier lifestyle to prevent heart diseases.  This month is important to me because I recently lost my brother to heart disease.  Many heart conditions can have no symptoms or signs, which is why awareness is so important.  If you haven’t seen your physician in awhile it a great month to make an appointment and get your blood pressure and cholesterol tested.  This month please try to share this article to help to bring awareness about heart disease and how to prevent it.

How can heart disease be prevented?

  •  Monitor your blood pressure and cholesterol
  •  Maintain a healthy diet (limiting salt intake, increasing amounts of fruits and vegetables)
  •  Maintain a healthy weight (check you body mass index)
  •   Exercise regularly (Benefits of Physical Activity)
  •   Getting more sleep
